When Did Abortion Become Legal

Every democratic or republican leader running for president will touch upon the controversial issue of abortion. Should we make abortion legal or should there be an absolute ban on it? Should society should be anti or pro abortion? Should abortion be considered in cases where it is a matter of life or death? In the end, WHO DECIDES? Going through abortion is one of the most traumatic experiences women go through.

It happens all the time whether we make it legal or illegal. Doesn’t a young girl who has become pregnant as a result or rape deserve a chance at a normal life just because abortion is banned? Similarly a women with 2 -3 kids - whose husband forced her into unsafe sex and who can’t afford another child- have the right to decide what is the best for her and her children. At the same time there are women in this world who have all the means they could ever need to raise a child but they just don’t want to take on that responsibility. Some women opt for abortion just because it is a convenient way out for them. What does one do?

The right choice would be to consider the situation and then decide on the course of action. What will be best for the mother and the child? Legally abortion should be considered in matters of life and death, in sexual crimes against women, and in the case of teenage mothers. But the final decision should be that of the mother. The option of aborting a pregnancy should be considered as a fundamental characteristic of women’s individual rights. Let HER have the power and understanding to do what she thinks best. No one has the right to play god.
